Agriculture has been the driving force and engine of the Indian economy. About 20% of GDP of the nation comes from the agriculture. The importance of agriculture and supporting activities will be there till the human exist.

Therefore, there has been a strong need to improve the agriculture keeping pace with the modern innovations and practices. To learn the basics of the newer technologies is the need of hour not only to increase the agriculture production and feed the nation of a 1.3 billion but also to increase the exportable surplus. The country not only need to provide the food-grains to its population but also to provide balanced nutrition to its masses.

The studies in agricultural sciences includes wide spectrum of fields of learning. It includes not only the basic and applied biological, chemical and physical sciences but also the humanities like sociology, anthropology, psychology etc. Therefore, there is no surprise that in Maharashtra and several other states as well as at national level competitive examinations, most of the successful students are agricultural graduates.
